Whodoo Vodou? Who, What, Where and Why? Dispelling the Myths of Haitian Vodou.
Rationale
The purpose of this essay is to provide an understanding of Vodou as a religion and culture. To explain some of the facts and dispel some of the myths surrounding Vodou from Haiti. This will be information on Traditional Haitian Vodou, not Voodoo from the US (New Orleans Voodoo or Louisiana or Hoodoo) and not neo-pagan integrated Vodou. This is not a "How-To" on Vodou. It is like an FAQ and information for beginners, as I was a very new beginner and still don’t know enough to feel comfortable. It has been written by a westerner, alien to Haitian culture and Vodou, for westerners. I have come to understand the culture and philosophy a lot more since studying Vodou and writing this essay.
Firstly I must make it clear that I am in not way initiated into Vodou. I am not initiated into a house and I am not initiated as Hounsi, Houngan Sur Point or Houngan Asogwe. I am however learning from a Mambo and have put this entire work past her before posting.
